Indiana Public Charter Schools Association Selects Contest Winner
The Indiana Public Charter Schools Association (IPCSA) has selected the winner of its “Does Your Charter School Rock?” photo contest — fifth grader Sheila Fink from 21st Century Charter School in Gary, Ind.
The photo and essay contest asked students to take a picture and illustrate why their charter school rocks, including a short explanation. Those pictures were posted to the IPCSA Facebook Page, where those who “like” the Page could vote for their favorite submission.
Fink and her class won the contest with 218 Facebook “likes.” They will receive a pizza party on behalf of Indiana Public Charter Schools Association, delivered by the IPCSA mascot, Owlbert. A traveling plaque will also be given on behalf of the winning school, 21st Century Charter School.
In her essay, Fink said, “We believe we ‘ROCK!’ We have the biggest cheerleader in our corner, Mrs. West, our principal. She pushes us to meet the high expectations set for us by our astonishing, creative, inspirational teachers. We have perfect attendance because we love learning the exciting lesson our teachers give us. What we love most are our awesome teachers that help us accelerate in academics as well as life.”
“We had so many great entries for our first “Does Your Charter School Rock?” contest, and we enjoyed reading every one,” said IPCSA President Russ Simnick. “It really highlighted the wonderful things our charter schools are doing throughout Indiana, and it gave the students a chance to have fun, get involved and be excited about their education.”
